If one were looking for a meat-and-potatoes laptop mainly for chess (ChessBase / Rybka, etc.), is this Toshiba a reasonable choice? There's already an AMD Toshiba in our family: price (about $450) and features (4 GB RAM) seem just fine .
But I was wondering if there was a better price/performance sweet spot.

Fellow CICL player Lyle Hayhurst--himself the head of his IT department--was using Chessbase with Fritz on his new iPad, and it looked awesome. Drag-and-drop moving of pieces (with your fingers!) was good for data entry, and it looked super cool to boot.
Having said that, if you're not into Apple computers, the laptop you mentioned seems fine.
What??
This is not emulation, but apps running native on the iPad???
I have Shredder & tChessPro on my iPhone: both are great. But I'd never consider them a replacement for ChessBase....
Lyle Hayhurst dropped Rob a clarifying email: he was running Shredder on the iPad.
