But the finishing blow should be delivered swiftly. Jeepers, I'm beginning to sound like Irving Chernev.

Rg5 looks like a pretty trap.
What Keith said - 1.Rg5 wins. Black can't even get a little wood for his queen with 1... Rxf3 because 2.Qb8+! forces mate.
