The Halloween Gambit

Here's a game with that scariest of openings, the Halloween Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Nxe5?!). It may be dubious if Black responds perfectly. But if not, White gets frightening attacking chances:

Thanks, Fred! I always wondered what the Halloween gambit was, and was too lazy to look it up. You get a reese's for that.

8...d5! and Black is better, no?

But if I were playing blitz on ICC, I'd still bet on Brause.

It's hard to justify the nerves it would take to try to hold onto the piece when 5...Bb4! is a perfectly good response.

5...Bb4 6.exd5 Nxe4 7.Qg4 (in the spirit of the Schliemann) gives White more play than any miscrant soul deserves
